In its theatrical delivery and ecstatic reception the performance recalls not only Dean Stockwell's creepy lip sync to Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" in Lynch's Blue Velvet (1986) but also Mia Kirshner's nightclub striptease to "Everybody Knows" by Leonard Cohen in Atom Egoyan's Exotica (1994).
For the first time ever, Barbie can lip sync to music played with an iPod and, as a fairy-themed doll, serve as an interactive controller to a DVD game.
While the movie has an intentionally amateurish aspect to it (the ``actors,'' most of whom are Young's friends and family, lip sync the lyrics to the songs), there is a real beauty to the images that Young captures with his camera.
