loran [ˈlɔːrən] n (Mathematics & Measurements / Navigation) a radio navigation system operating over long distances. Synchronized pulses are transmitted from widely spaced radio stations to aircraft or shipping, the time of arrival of the pulses being used to determine position [lo(ng-)ra(nge) n(avigation)]
A long-range radio navigation position fixing system using the time difference of reception of pulse type transmissions from two or more fixed stations.
