For no particular reason, I use the fresh leaves in sweet recipes such as ice cream and milk puddings, and dried in savoury dishes.
It reminded me of school milk puddings, I can't remember having rice but I can certainly remember the others: tapioca (wallpaper paste) sago (frogspawn) and the one I loathed - macaroni (pipes).
We had to prepare all the vegetables and there were always puddings too - sponge puddings, milk puddings or pastry.
