muon neutrino
n.
A stable elementary particle in the lepton family having a mass less than 0.49 times that of the electron and no charge. See Table at subatomic particle.

muon neutrino
A type of neutrino associated with the muon, often created in particle interactions involving muons (such as muon or pion decay). The muon neutrino has a mass no greater than 0.49 times that of the electron and has no charge. See more at neutrino. See Table at subatomic particle.

Three types exist: muon neutrinos, electron neutrinos and tau neutrinos.
The scientists have observed such changes among neutrinos emanating from the sun, from cosmic ray collisions with atmospheric molecules, and from nuclear reactors To generate and measure neutrinos under-more controlled circumstances, researchers in Japan working on the experiment known as K2K have been beaming muon neutrinos through the ground to a detector 250 kilometers away.
An empirical parametrisation of the beam was developed, to predict the flux of electron neutrinos using the muon neutrino spectra measured by NOMAD.
