As dengue fever is a legally notifiable disease in China, the researchers were able to retrieve the monthly incidence of dengue fever from the Notifiable Infectious Disease Report System in the China Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
It has been a notifiable disease only since July, and although it has not been reported in Ireland before, it is understood that a previous incursion did take place.
Rabies is a notifiable disease in Northern Ireland and there had been no notifications of rabies in humans here since 1938.
