This is referred to as panchromatic film and is used today for all except special applications where orthochromatic film has advantages.
Orthochromatic film is sensitive to the blue to yellow region of the spectrum and panchromatic extends sensitivity to red.
Five years ago, the photographic amateur --the box camera or folding Kodak enthusiast, had orthochromatic film, a fairly wide group of lenses, shutters, and film sizes to choose from, and several kinds of developers and enlarging equipment with which to work.
