A usually benign tumor of the adrenal medulla or the sympathetic nervous system in which the affected cells secrete increased amounts of epinephrine or norepinephrine.

1,2) Childhood pheochromocytomas are more commonly multicentric and extra adrenal and only 2% of these pheochromocytomas are malignant.
It predisposes patients to multiple hemangioblastomas of the central nervous system, pheochromocytomas, renal cysts, renal cell and other carcinomas, and pancreatic cysts.
On nonenhanced images, ACCs have attenuation values >30 Hounsefield units (HU) as do other malignant tumors such as metastases or pheochromocytomas.
