During recent years reports have shown good success with lasers and similar devices to treat acne either by itself or along with photosensitizing dyes.
The treatment uses a drug called a photosensitizer, or photosensitizing agent, and a particular type of light.
Some treatments require the use of a photosensitizing solution which allows the light to be more readily absorbed by the skin.
