Three hundred years ago, a group of French philosophers and economists called the physiocrats argued that only agriculture created real value in the world, because every other activity merely changed one thing into another.
Condillac's theory of economics was initially condemned by the physiocrats because in his utility-based analysis, industry and commerce and not just agriculture contributed to the wealth of France.
Spanish Georgists considered Florez and the physiocrats as precursors (see Martin Uriz 1985, lix, lxxix, Rodriguez 2001, 527, 537-38, 545, 549).
