Noun1.positive identification - evidence proving that you are who you say you are; evidence establishing that you are among the group of people already known to the system; recognition by the system leads to acceptance; "a system for positive identification can prevent the use of a single identity by several people"
key - a generic term for any device whose possession entitles the holder to a means of access; "a safe-deposit box usually requires two keys to open it"
identification number, number - a numeral or string of numerals that is used for identification; "she refused to give them her Social Security number"
identity card, card - a card certifying the identity of the bearer; "he had to show his card to get in"
countersign, password, watchword, parole, word - a secret word or phrase known only to a restricted group; "he forgot the password"
identification - evidence of identity; something that identifies a person or thing
green card - a card that identifies the bearer as an alien with permanent resident status in the United States; "he was surprised to discover that green cards are no longer green"
I.D., ID - a card or badge used to identify the bearer; "you had to show your ID in order to get in"
charge card, charge plate, credit card, plastic - a card (usually plastic) that assures a seller that the person using it has a satisfactory credit rating and that the issuer will see to it that the seller receives payment for the merchandise delivered; "do you take plastic?"
debit card - a card (usually plastic) that enables the holder to withdraw money or to have the cost of purchases charged directly to the holder's bank account
smart card - a plastic card containing a microprocessor that enables the holder to perform operations requiring data that is stored in the microprocessor; typically used to perform financial transactions
