I suspect that part of the reason for Amsterdam's resistance to recognizing the Jews was the strength of anti-Remonstrant feeling in that city in the 1610s, and the power exercised there by the strict Calvinist predikants and their followers, although neither camp in the Arminian controversy seemed particularly well disposed toward the Jews.
