Innovations in Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive
In response to market demand for a pressure-sensitive adhesive
designed to replace mechanical fasteners, reduce component weight and act as an assembly aid in manufacturing applications, a high strength rubber transfer adhesive has been developed.
The first type is a thermosetting adhesive film, and the other is a pressure-sensitive adhesive
3M Innovation Properties has patented a pressure-sensitive adhesive
composition having improved initial tack (generally, the pressure-sensitive adhesive
composition comprises (1) a carboxylic group-containing (meth)acrylic tacky polymer having a weight average molecular weight of less than 800,000 and a glass transition temperature of -100[degrees] C to -30[degrees] C, and (2) an amino group-containing (meth)acrylic non-tacky polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from 30,000 to 100,000 and a glass transition temperature of 20[degrees] C to 90[degrees] C.
Has pressure-sensitive adhesive
to bond to polycarbonate, polystyrene and paper carriers.
Adhesives Research offers a product line of electrically conductive pressure-sensitive adhesive
systems for reliable electrical interconnections.
The sheets have a uniform distribution of a ferromagnetic filler in the polymer bonder to provide consistent performance and an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive
with release liner.
Products include: Spray 'N Stik, an aerosol spray glue for permanent bonds; Stik-Arounds (seen here), double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive
spots and lines; One Stik, a dispenser allowing precise gluing with various-sized nondrip applicators; Strong Silk, an instant-grab adhesive that replaces nails by holding projects yet allows repositioning for up to 15 minutes; and BlueStik, a removable adhesive putty that is reusable and sticks to just about any surface.
Kraton Polymers LLC (Houston) has developed two new grades ofKraton G SBC (styrenic block copolymer) for pressure-sensitive adhesive
films that are said to combine the process efficiency of coextrusion with the customized performance of adhesive coating.
From single- and double-coated foams to films and non-wovens, pressure-sensitive adhesive
tapes are proving to be a desirable alternative to liquid adhesives, screws, rivets, clips, and other fasteners in monitoring, pacing, and defibrillation devices as well as IV hold-down and surgical drape applications.
SPLICING TAPES, tesa tape inc.
The company has developed a waterborne, tackified, pressure-sensitive adhesive
that works with paper or film labels.
