En un pub (o public house) se pueden consumir fundamentalmente bebidas alcohólicas, aunque en la actualidad también se sirven platos ligeros durante el almuerzo. Es, además, un lugar de encuentro donde se juega a los dardos o al billar, entre otras actividades. La estricta regulación sobre la venta de alcohol controla las horas de apertura, aunque éstas son más flexibles desde hace unos años. No se puede servir alcohol a los menores de 18 años.
