radiation intensity

The radiation dose rate at a given time and place. It may be used, coupled with a figure, to denote the radiation intensity at a given number of hours after a nuclear burst, e.g., RI-3 is the radiation intensity 3 hours after the time of burst. Also called RI.

The unit measures both radiation intensity and total energy.
IR heating with a high radiation intensity, 5000 watts per square meter, was more efficient in inactivating enzymes and caused less change to surface color than did a low radiation intensity--3000 watts per square meter.
Also included is a scatter detector with a plurality of radiation detectors responsive to impinging radiation intensity to provide a signal representative of impinging radiation intensity.
