The granulocytes contained numerous basophilic or refringent cytoplasmic granules and had small nuclei, which often showed the oval or eccentric shapes.
The results showed that HMPV only grew on LLC-MK2 cells with cytopathic effect of round and refringent cells but without syncytia formation in most cases, an observation in agreement with our results.
The cells showed an apparent increase in size, diffuse cell rounding, and a refringent aspect (Figure 1B).
