n. pl. sandfish or sand·fish·es
1. Any of various marine fishes that live or burrow in sandy or muddy bottoms, as a scaleless fish of the family Trichodontidae of the northern Pacific.
2. A slender fish (Gonorhynchus gonorhynchus) of the Pacific and Indian oceans, characterized by an angular snout. Also called beaked salmon.
