At an oil and gas conference in Bahrain in March 2007, Saudi Aramco urged the industry to "step up" efforts to improve technology in a bid to hit pressing production targets, saying: "These include initiatives in areas such as land seismicity, better diagnostics and imaging, improved waterflood performance, increased recovery rates, and continued enhancements in drilling and completion technologies".
It is obvious now that the projects on construction of Kambarata and Rogun hydroelectric stations need serious revision and re-working in view of a high level of seismicity, geological risks of the area and other factors.
Seismologists may benefit from the useful tables of historical earthquakes included in the book, but there are no new insights into seismicity in the Americas.
