Winston Pontotoc [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Please explain why, when baking, all-purpose flour is used--having to add baking powder, salt, and soda when self-rising flour has the ingredients already added?
If you want to make your own self-rising flour to use in the recipes, Mary Lindberg of Simi Valley shared the following proportions - mix together 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 3/4 teaspoon baking powder.
In response to Mary Gnizak's request for a recipe for one-hour bread (80/5:8), Lynne Fairchild of Sacramento, California, sent this recipe from a newspaper clipping which she found among her father's things: Father's Beer Bread 3 cups self-rising flour 3 tablespoons sugar 1 12-oz can of beer Preheat oven to 325 [degrees].
