New rules introduced this year led to warnings that shearing gangs would stay away and result in millions of British sheep remaining unshorn during the hottest months.
SHEEP farmers are heading for a major welfare crisis this summer with overseas shearing gangs struggling to get work permits.
The UK sheep sector relies on the shearing undertaken by these very skilled shearing gangs from the southern hemisphere, said farmer Frank Langrish, chairman of the British Wool Marketing Board.
