An edible eastern Asian mushroom (Lentinus edodes) having an aromatic, fleshy, golden or dark brown to blackish cap and an inedible tough stipe. Also called Chinese black mushroom, golden oak mushroom, Oriental black mushroom.

Byline: ANI Solan, Sept 17 (ANI): Farmers have started growing Shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula Edodes) having medicinal qualities at Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
One particularly delightful harvest, available primarily from spring through fall, is the shiitake mushroom.
Modern Farms has also expanded its exotic line to include 8-ounce packages of shiitake and oyster mushrooms.
