Like almost all of the rest of the world's forces, Hong Kong's police officers also carried side arms but used them only in dire emergency.
It would be a good idea to use a chair with side arms (if you use a wheelchair, you can use your arm rest, and consider using your safety belt), and to perform these exercises in a corner of your room.
These chairs also have adjustable side arm rests that can be set according to ones comfort for resting ones arms while free.
