1. A category of intelligence comprising either individually or in combination all communications intelligence, electronic intelligence, and foreign instrumentation signals intelligence, however transmitted.
2. Intelligence derived from communications, electronic, and foreign instrumentation signals. Also called SIGINT. See also communications intelligence; electronic intelligence; intelligence; foreign instrumentation signals intelligence.

US signals intelligence was so limited in 1946 that half the finished intelligence produced by the army was based on intercepts of French communications, according to the history.
This has proven to be erroneous; neither Echelon nor the signals intelligence (SIGINT) system of which it is part, can do this.
The ELINT skills will combine with the existing 98C communications intelligence COMINT) skills to create a true signals intelligence (SIGINT) analyst.
