Byline: ANI Washington, Aug 18 (ANI): Crosstalk between cells lining the lung (epithelial cells) and airway smooth muscle cells could be linked to lung diseases, such as asthma and pulmonary hypertension.
Studies show that the compound regulates the production of both vasoconstricting and vasodilating substances, inhibits oxidative stress and the generation of reactive oxygen species, inhibits inflammation, prevents the oxidation and uptake of LDL, suppresses platelet aggregation at plaque sites, and decreases the accumulation of smooth muscle cells in the blood vessels.
Although not yet strong enough for coronary applications, the tissue-engineered vessels perform similarly to native tissue in critical ways, including their morphology, expression of several smooth muscle cell proteins, ability to proliferate and contract in response to vasoconstrictors (one of the most important properties of blood vessels).
