(Law) Law chiefly US and Scot compensation awarded to a party for injury to the feelings as distinct from physical suffering and pecuniary loss

solatium
1. payment or other recompense for mental suffering or financial or other loss.
2. Scots Law. a provision for a sum of money to be paid to an injured party by the party responsible for the injury, over and above compensation paid for damages for injury to feelings.
