Interestingly, considering the dialogue is actually based on real people's words, some of it feels somewhat stagey, particularly the long individual speeches.
Stagey dialogue would have punctured the intense mood piled up by the power of the songs.
While Mortensen is excellent and Jason Isaacs as his psychiatrist/pal is watchable, the film never transcends its stagey origins, while the cast's English accents don't help matters.
