The interval between the upper and lower bands and the middle band is determined by volatility, typically the standard deviation of the same data that were used for the average.
Bollinger Bands use a set moving average (20-Day SMA) with two trading bands above and below the moving average that are a determined standard deviation away from the moving average.
In order to place the information from these tests on a common scale, we followed the standard practice of standardizing all scores by test, grade, and year to have a mean of zero and standard deviation of one.
