An infection of the throat, often epidemic, caused by hemolytic streptococci and characterized by fever and inflammation of the tonsils.

Infection of the throat caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes. Symptoms usually include fever, redness of the throat, lymph node enlargement, and inflammation of the tonsils.

Washington, Oct 1 (ANI): Researchers claim that streptococcal infection, also called strep throat, doesn't cause or trigger Tourette syndrome or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
But Richard Zegers of the University of Amsterdam concluded that the legendary composer fell victim to a "minor epidemic" of strep throat infection in Vienna, where Mozart died in December 1791.
Strep throat is inflammation of the throat, tonsils and lymph nodes due to infection with group A streptococcus bacteria.
