There are other methods besides this and one of them is true multi domain hosting, which means that you will get a single domain and subdirectories, but you will receive separate ways to control each of the domains through GUI?
When you join the club you enter the members home page - which is packed with many topics with even many more subdirectories for you to look at.
However, nowadays, it's probably easier just to sort files into lots of subdirectories and use Google Desktop Search
