For its part, USNORTHCOM is disestablished as a geographic combatant command, but its homeland defense operational responsibilities remain in its new designation as a subunified command of USAMCOM.
To respond to localized crisis situations or to accomplish specific tasks, combatant commanders are expected to assign either subunified commands or JTFs to concentrate effort without detracting from their broad and continuing AOR missions.
On October 1, 2007, the transition team officially disbanded, and USAFRICOM was at IOC as a subunified command under USEUCOM.
