The east coast beaches have the biggest waves and are popular with surfies.
Nothing to do with the skyline of high-rise beach apartments, the endless succession of raucous bars, clubs, casinos, motels or theme parks such as Sea World, Movie World, Water World, Dreamworld and Sleaze World (OK, I admit I made the last one up) over 40 kilometres of coastline attracting backpackers, surfies and package holidaymakers.
