The Pentagon announced on September 24 that it would reopen the competition for 179 tanker planes to replace its aging fleet, a 35 billion dollar prize that initially was awarded to EADS and Northrop Grumman in February 2008.
Byline: AFP WASHINGTON: Two rival bidders expressed optimism on Friday that they could win a multi-billion dollar US military contract to build a new tanker plane, a day after the Pentagon said the competition was reopened.
Boeing said Friday it would develop a new tanker plane for the US military "with maximum capability at the lowest cost" after the Pentagon reopened competition for the long-delayed contract.
