Ten years ago, when I was cutting video on three tape machines the size of a Quayside flat, I would deliver the result on a clunky VHS tape which the client would then have to duplicate many times over and post out in padded envelopes, hoping his clients would be able to see past the grainy picture, bleeding colours and woefully hissy sound.
Today's audio industry is rapidly evolving, and the top training in sound arts will involve the latest digital workstations, consoles, tape machines, microphones, and industry software to keep current.
Then came the mylar tape machines which started the great explosion in transcriber efficiency.
