With only a few hours to reflect on what went wrong late Thursday in the Los Angeles Lakers' 98-91 overtime win, Van Gundy, who elected not to have his team foul with a three-point lead in the final seconds of regulation, was asked if a night's rest had brought him any clarity.
In particular, Reimer (2005) compared FIBA and North-American rules, and found the following differences for WNBA 2005 season: i) two time periods of 20 minutes instead of four periods of 10 minutes; ii) thirty seconds in each ball possession instead of twenty four seconds; iii) six fouls per player instead of five personal fouls; and iv) seven team fouls to go to the free-throw line instead of five team fouls.
Wolf's list of the most influencial rule changes during his time included the switch from jump balls to a possession arrow, the addition of the five-second closely guarded rule, the three-point shot and the double bonus at 10 team fouls instead of a 1-and-1 opportunity.
