As far as I am aware, 1812 saw the erection of the original building which was a temperance hotel (can't see many people walking up that hill with no alcohol available) and then rebuilt in 1852 with both dates preceding the tower by a great number of years.
The existing hotel was originally two buildings, the Tudno Castle and Temperance Hotels.
THE Waverley Hotel was built on Whitley Bay's sea front as a temperance hotel in 1907.
