A large staffing service can bring in any number of temporaries to work days, nights, weekends or holidays -- and not just to perform low-skill tasks.
To determine whether temporary workers were employed as temporaries voluntarily or not, respondents were asked to indicate: (1) whether they were working voluntarily or involuntarily as temporary workers, and (2) whether they were working as temporary employees because of the positive attractions of temporary work or because they were forced to work as temporaries due to no other employment alternatives.
The use of temporary executives is part of a trend, begun during the past decade, that involves the increased use of the "contingent" workforce, which includes part-time employees, consultants, and subcontractors as well as temporaries.
