An iodine-containing hormone, C15H11I4NO4, produced by the thyroid gland, that increases the rate of cell metabolism and regulates growth and that is made synthetically for treatment of thyroid disorders.

Hypothyroidism which is an illness stemming from the malfunction of the thyroid gland leading to the inadequate production of the thyroid gland's hormone called thyroxin.
After that, I take thyroxin for the rest of my life, which lots of people already do.
My thyroid gland was producing double the thyroxin a normal person should have.
