Any of various flagellated protozoans of the genus Trichomonas that are parasitic and inhabit the digestive and genitourinary tract of the host. Trichomonas vaginalis is a common cause of vaginal infections in humans.

Byline: ANI Washington, Sept 10 (ANI): A strong association between the common sexually transmitted infection, Trichomonas vaginalis, and risk of advanced and lethal prostate cancer in men has been found by researchers from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Most trichomonas organisms are no longer motile by the time the sample reaches the lab.
