turnaround [ˈtɜːnəˌraʊnd] n 1. (Business / Commerce) a. the act or process in which a ship, aircraft, etc., unloads passengers and freight at the end of a trip and reloads for the next trip b. the time taken for this 2. (Business / Commerce) the total time taken by a ship, aircraft, or other vehicle in a round trip 3. a complete reversal of a situation or set of circumstances Also called turnround The length of time between arriving at a point and being ready to depart from that point. It is used in this sense for the loading, unloading, re-fueling, and re-arming, where appropriate, of vehicles, aircraft, and ships. See also turnaround cycle.
