This part of the adventure is rather dully and unpersuasively sloshed through -- it had to have been hairier and more complicated than Nichols and Sorkin allow -- but whatever edge there is to these and all of his other scenes in the movie, Hoffman almost solely provides it, usually with bitter hilarity.
