Fellow vice-principal Stuart Cutforth becomes principal in December - taking over from David Gibson CBE, who has been in the post on an interim basis.
Stuart Laverick, vice-principal at the college, said: "We are incredibly pleased this year with our results, in particular with the improvement in the number of students achieving A to C grades.
Helen was initially appointed to the college as head of sport and became assistant principal for student support before being promoted to her present post, which is vice-principal for staffing, student support and guidance.
