While the vinho verde white wine segment still dominates, accounting for 56 percent of imports from Portugal, the biggest gains have been made in the premium red wine segment, which more than doubled to reach 35 percent of imports from the country.
We enjoyed cocktails at casinos; beer followed by whisky at the dogs and medronho, local firewater, when in Portugal along with a case or two of Casal Garcia Vinho Verde.
The Vinho Verde region in the north is Portugal's biggest wine-producing region.
