Wagon wheel

Until some years into the twentieth century, the outer rim (wagon Tire), and the inner thimble that served as a bushing and turned on the axle were, with the exception of a few rivets and hoops, the only metal in a wagon wheel. Just inside the tire was a segmented ring of wood into which one end of the wooden spokes fitted. Each segment of the ring was called a Felloe, Fellow, or Felly. The other end of the spokes fitted into the hub. The latter was usually made from one carefully seasoned piece of wood bound with iron hoops to keep it from splitting.
