When the National Football League and breakaway American Football League agreed to merge in 1966, they inaugurated an end-of-season face-off called the "AFL-NFL World Championship Game."
In 1967, the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League defeated the Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League 35-10 in the first AFL-NFL World Championship Game, known retroactively as Super Bowl I.
But John Nicols, a professor of history and the classics at the University of Oregon, who is LXII years old (you figure that one out), believes it has something to do with the first Super Bowl (which was actually called the "AFL-NFL World Championship Game') being played in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
