The gradual transformation of political speeches about dramas from complaints about themes and representations to verbal attacks has had various consequences for the dramas, from cancellation to autocensorship. During the first period of the JDP government, the contest over television content was realized by various actors, however, the second decade has been determined by the government's overwhelming hegemony over television, as the speeches of politicians and the penalties given by the RTSC indicate.
The entire Spanish press, including the rightwing ABC, lashed out at Sarkozy for his "superiority complex." The Paris government issued the usual denials, while the establishment press of France toed the line, preferring partial autocensorship rather than risk their access to the government.
And then I understood perfectly not only the significance of censorship but of its more subtle, deeper variations: autocensorship, internalized in each of us, so that we don't need to chat with our censors too often, that we make their job easier.
