Remarkably, development of Computer Algebra (Macsyma 1968) started at the same time as development of Theorem Proving (Automath 1967); however, request from academia and industry drove development to mature CAS very soon, while TP only recently reaches relevance in industry.
By the way, the real pioneer of machine-assisted reasoning was deBruijn in Holland who invented his Automath system before this; I didn't know about it at the time.
It may be that the enterprise started with Automath ultimately continues to success.
