The highlight of our visit was actually boarding two National Historic Landmark ships-the Spanish-American War-era cruiser USS Olympia (incidentally Admiral George Dewey's flagship at the May 1, 1898 Battle of Manila Bay) and the World War II-era submarine USS Becuna
*, Ana Lopez-Duran *, Elena Fernandez del Rio *, Ursula Martinez *, Jaime Fraga **, Jesus Osorio **, Manuel Arrojo **, Fernanda Lopez-Crecente **, Maria Nieves Dominguez **
For nautical souls, the Independence Seaport Museum alongside the Delaware River has plenty of interactive stuff about the city's seafaring history plus a chance to tour the USS Becuna
, a Second World War submarine.
SS319, now in Philadelphia; as well as diesel submarines commissioned in 1944 for WWII.
