La mosca blanca Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius, 1889) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) es un insecto plaga de importancia en diferentes cultivos del mundo, en especial en el tropico y subtropico (Lopez-Avila y Garcia, 2000).
No Brasil, ha um numero reduzido de aleirodideos que sao consideradas pragas, como Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius, 1889) (LOURENCAO et al., 2013), Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood, 1856) (LOURENCAO et al., 2008) e Aleurocanthus woglumi Ashby, 1915 (PENA et al., 2009).
Alem disso, igualmente a mosca-branca (Bemisia tabaci Gennadius, 1889 biotipo B) causa danos diretos por sugar a seiva das folhas e, indiretos, por excretar quantidades abundantes de gotas acucaradas, que cobrem superficies de folhas e frutos (EPPO, 2002), dificultando as trocas gasosas e depreciando o produto.
