Oak savannas are transitional, structurally complex systems that tend to support high biodiversity (Rice et al., 1993; Henderson, 1995) that include threatened species such as the Besseya bullii Eaton, Gentiana alba Muhl., Asclepias suUivantii Engelm.
Since the 1980s, six native plant species have been extirpated from the site, and the state endangered Besseya bullii (Eat.) Rydb.
