This research revealed that
beta-cyclodextrins, particularly the proprietary
beta-cyclodextrin Captisol, enabled a high concentration of furosemide at neutral pH.

We also found that gamma-cyclodextrins were more successful than
beta-cyclodextrins and were more cost-effective," Schmidt said.
Based on previous literature findings that described collagen fibrils (5-7) and
beta-cyclodextrins (8-14), computer-assisted three-dimensional scale models of collagen segments and anticipated examples of beta-cyctodextrin's poiymerizabie derivatives were prepared and studied.
Now, Cerestar has announced that it will proceed with the commercial development of
beta-cyclodextrins. Cerestar, a company of Eridania Beghin-Say, Hammond, Ind., has participated in the approval process of
beta-cyclodextrins since 1996, and has recently received GRAS status.
Especially costly is gamma-cyclodextrin with a "donut hole" larger than those of alpha- and
beta-cyclodextrins. Its cavity is easily capable of binding cyclic molecules that have 12 or more atoms in their rings.
Spain has allowed
beta-cyclodextrins in food products since 1987.
