An inflatable, usually vestlike piece of scuba equipment that is equipped with a harness for an air tank, is connected by a hose to the tank's regulator, and is used to control buoyancy, as in controlling descents and ascents and establishing neutral buoyancy at a desired depth. Also called buoyancy control device.
